(ECNS) -- A robot band developed by scientists at Tsinghua University combines cutting-edge tech and traditional culture.
Three robotic musicians played traditional Chinese musical instruments,
the bamboo flute, Chinese-harp and drumset.
Mi Haipeng, the project leader and also an associate professor at Tsinghua University, innovated the idea of robots performing Chinese traditional music.
He had participated in research of the world's first robot rock band.
The whole team, aged less than 30 on average, cover diverse professional backgrounds, including computers, mechanical engineering, modeling, sculpture and music composition.
Robots surpass humans in skills, but hardly express emotions while performing, Mi said.
Now the new version of the band is capable of performing four pieces of music.
The current three members are named after three stars of the Big Dipper, Mi said, adding that when the other four members will meet the public is still unknown.
