(ECNS)--Patrick Nijs, former Belgian ambassador to China, put on his boots to check on his crops after a heavy rain.
Seven years ago, Nijs gave up the opportunity to continue his diplomatic career.
He returned to his wife Deng Minyan's hometown, a copper-depleted city called Dongchuan in Southwest China's Yunnan province, to explore sustainable agriculture.
The city is known as the "World Mudslide Natural Museum."
The couple had stayed here before the outbreak of COVID-19.
Nijs and his wife witnessed China's efforts in the fight against the virus, and shared their experiences with friends and relatives in Europe.
Nijs said China is one of most responsible countries in the prevention and control of the epidemic.
