(ECNS)-- A 65-year-old COVID-19 patient was discharged from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University on Tuesday.
Cui Zhiqiang received a double lung transplant for pulmonary fibrosis caused by COVID-19 infections on April 20.
Before the surgery, he had been hooked up to an ECMO machine for 62 days.
The 65-year-old patient developed a high temperature on Jan 23 and was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 on Feb 7.
Six COVID-19 patients have undergone lung transplants in China as a final option to save those in critical condition.
Cui is the first among the six to be discharged from hospital.
He is also the last of 5510 patients admitted and treated by the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University.
