(ECNS) -- China launched Chang'e-5 spacecraft on Tuesday to collect and return samples from the moon.
It's the country's first attempt to retrieve samples from an extraterrestrial body.

Chang'e-1, China's first lunar probe, was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Oct. 24, 2007, making China the fifth country to develop and launch a lunar probe on its own.
Chang'e-2 lunar probe blasted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on Oct. 1, 2010.
Chang'e-3 lunar probe was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on Dec. 2, 2013.
Chang'e-4 lunar probe was launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center on Dec. 8, 2018.
Chang'e-5 lunar probe was launched from the Wenchang Space Launch Center, South China's Hainan Province, on Nov. 24, 2020.
