(ECNS) -- A group of elderly people were practicing umbrella skills in Hot Spring Park led by Wang Shuiying, leader of Fuzhou Jin'ou elderly umbrella skill team in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province.
They rotated a traditional oil-paper umbrella with a spinning colorful ball, ring, plate or hat on it with one hand, and a handkerchief with the other hand, while playing a hula hoop simultaneously.
Their performance drew many cheers from onlookers.
Wang first created the umbrella performance to keep fit.
She started by spinning an umbrella with a small rotating ball on top, then tried a plate and bamboo hat, etc.
"At first, I performed alone, then more people joined in. Now, there are about 30 team members. Rotating several things at once is very hard -- you need to learn the skills," said Wang.
Coupled with dance, the display is very eye-catching.
Luo Guisheng, 69, opted for a hula hoop along with rotating umbrella and whirling ball.
"This folk performance has gone on for years. We have made some innovations. Solid basic skills are necessary," said Luo.
Most team members are in their sixties and seventies. They gather together after retirement due to the umbrella performance.
"We enjoy the applause on stage. I am 72 now and feel vigorous after joining this activity," said Yan Zhenxiang, a member of the Fuzhou Jin'ou elderly umbrella skill team.
The team is a common sight in Hot Spring Park, drawing many new members.
