(ECNS) -- A life-saving passage into a collapsed gold mine is under construction in Qixia under Yantai City.
Rescuers have established contact with some of the 22 miners that got trapped underground following an explosion on Jan. 10.
Eleven of the miners were found Sunday through a drilled channel.
A total 589 personnel from 16 professional rescue teams and one fire team have been working around the clock.
The physical condition of the eight trapped miners have improved after they received nutritious supplies, while one was in a coma and two experiencing mild discomfort.
