(ECNS) -- Yuanxiao or Tangyuan, a traditional snack for Chinese Lantern Festival, is usually made of glutinous rice with sweet fillings.
Now, it has been stuffed with fillings bearing various flavors.
In Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on Feb. 23, some chefs made these glutinous rice balls filled with mature vinegar. This kind of snack has become increasingly popular in the market.
In Pingjiang County, Hunan Province, the birthplace of spicy gluten strips, yuanxiao was stuffed with spicy gluten fillings.
Besides the innovation in traditional snack fillings, its shape has also changed a lot.
In Qingdao, Shandong Province, yuanxiao is no longer shaped like a small ball, but in a variety of cute forms.
