(ECNS) -- A pack of 10 dholes were captured by infrared cameras at the Qilian Mountain National Park in Qinghai, an announcement by the park said on Wednesday.
It marks another major record for the area, following the rare discovery of five snow leopards, six Pallas's cats, and five Chinese mountain cats in 2019.
The dog-like dholes in the Qilian Mountains are presumably the only pack of northern dholes in the world, according to available data.
The dhole is a national first-class protected wild animal in China.
It was once distributed in Asia, Europe and America. After the Last Glacial Period, around 12,000 to 18,000 years ago, they disappeared gradually, leaving only the Asian population.
