(ECNS) -- China's ocean-monitoring satellite Haiyang-2D (HY-2D), was sent into orbit by a Long March-4B rocket on Wednesday at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gansu.
The HY-2D will form a constellation with the HY-2B and HY-2C satellites to build China's first all-weather and round-the-clock dynamic ocean environment monitoring system.
The HY-2D satellite can detect and investigate ocean dynamic environment data such as sea surface wind field, sea surface height, and significant wave height.
It will play an important role in supporting China's maritime economy, safeguarding the country's ocean rights and interests.
