(ECNS) -- The 40-kilometer-long Beijing section of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal opened to navigation for tourism on Saturday.
It took constructors more than 700 days and nights to finish six major projects of the section.
Two new ship locks have been built here.
Canal haozi (labor songs), a kind of intangible cultural heritage, was performed by its inheritors at the opening ceremony to show the ancient canal culture.
The Grand Canal, with a length of 1,794 km and a history of more than 2,400 years, was once a major waterway linking Beijing and Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.
