(ECNS) -- After 13 months of renovation, Jiaxing Railway Station has opened to traffic before the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) which falls on July 1, 2021.
The station, a vital traffic hub to Jiaxing, played an important role in the last day's conference of the First CPC National Congress held on Nanhu Lake in 1921.
Covering an area of about 60,000 square meters, it is a full-scale replica of Jiaxing's historic 1907 railway station, with a new station built underground for traffic use and commercial space.
Its ground station building has been transformed into Jiaxing Railway History Museum, with an exhibition hall memorizing the First CPC National Congress.
Its 1,921 red bricks and 2,021 grey bricks, all made from the mud of Nanhu Lake, symbolize the founding of the CPC in 1921 and its centenary in 2021 respectively.
Dubbed a "railway station in a forest", it has used 1.2 MW photovoltaic modules on the roofs of the south and north buildings, which are expected to generate about 1.1 million kWh of electricity annually.
