(ECNS) -- The 515-kilometer-long Wutong Daquan-Mulei section was opened to traffic on Wednesday, marking the full operation of the Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway.
The expressway will cut road travel between Beijing and Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, by more than 1,300 kilometers compared with the Lianyungang-Horgos Expressway.
The Wutong Daquan-Mulei section, the so-called "last kilometer" of the Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway, adopts a two-way, four-lane design with a speed of 120 km/h.
The expressway stretches over more than 2,500 kilometers, and passes through Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Gansu before reaching Xinjiang.
