(ECNS) -- The 33th Guangyuan Daughter's Day kicked off in the water park of Gaungyuan, southwest China's Sichuan on Wednesday.
The festival aims to showcase the characteristics of Guangyuan women, such as their elegance, diligence, kindness and independence through art shows, water cruises and other programs.
The phoenix boat race, comprising only female competitors, won thunderous applause.
It is a traditional activity in need of protection and promotion as a Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
As the hometown of Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in China's history, Guangyuan aims to strengthen its historical influence and promote tourist development through this festival.
