(ECNS) -- Yangtze finless porpoises have frequently appeared in the waters of the Gan River in Yangzizhou Town since the end of June this year.
As its face appears to be fixed in a permanent grin, the finless porpoise is dubbed the "smiling angel" of the Yangtze River.
The Yangtze finless porpoise is an indicative flagship species of the Yangtze River ecosystem and was classified as critically endangered on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2013.
It is also known as the "giant panda of the water" due to its rarity.
