First Writing Ceremony, a traditional activity for children, held in Shaanxi

(ECNS) -- A ancient-style First Writing Ceremony was held in the Huangdi (Yellow Emperor) Mausoleum in Huangling County, Shaanxi on Tuesday.

Children gathered at the sacrificial square and finished a series of steps guided by teachers.

Red dots were put on their foreheads as it represents the opening of the wisdom eye.

Teachers also gave lectures on basic principles of behavior.

The ceremony represents that the children are ready to take a step on the lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
