(ECNS) -- The rotor and spindle of No.11 generating unit on the right bank of Baihetan Hydropower Station, the world's largest hydropower station under construction, were connected on Monday.
It marks the 6th million kilowatt unit of the station has entered final assembly stage.
The rotor of No.11 unit, the largest unit in the world in terms of capacity and weight, is 16.5 meters in outer diameter, 4.08 meters in height, and weighs 2,300 tons. .
The assemby started on Feb. 5, 2021. The rotor was lifted and installed in advance, laying a foundation for all units to begin operation by July next year.
The Baihetan hydropower station is located on the Jinsha River, the upper section of the Yangtze River in southwest China, with an investment of 220 billion yuan (about $34.07 billion).
