(ECNS) -- Streams of drift ice have appeared along the Huma section of Heilongjiang River, which crosses the China-Russia border, heralding the approach of freezing weather.
Drift ice is a unique natural feature in northern China.
The Huma section of Heilongjiang River naturally freezes over after Frost's Descent, the 18th of China's 24 solar terms.
As temperatures drop, larger and deeper blocks of ice form until the entire river is frozen.
The freezing process lasts for more than 20 days.
