Female fire brigade volunteers guard century-old homes in Hunan

(ECNS) -- Five women from Qiyang organized a firefighting drill in Li Family Courtyard of Longxi Village, Panshi Town, Qiyang City, Hunan Province.

Li Family Courtyard in Longxi Village has a history of more than 500 years.

Densely distributed houses mostly made of wood and scarce water supply put the old courtyard under threat of fire.

Considering that young and strong village men go out to work all year round, the women spontaneously set up a fire brigade.

The volunteer fire brigade, with all members over 60 years on average, has organized a series of publicity activities on fire safety guided by the local fire station.

Now the volunteer fire brigade has more than 1,000 members to popularize fire safety knowledge.
