(ECNS) -- With Tongguling Tunnel drilled though on Tuesday, all tunnels along Fangchenggang-Dongxing Railway in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have joined up.
It marks a significant step forward in the construction of Chinese high-speed trains to reach the China-Vietnam border.
Fangchenggang-Dongxing Railway, or Fangdong Railway, is China's first railway to Dongxing, a port city connecting China with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members.
The 46.9-kilometer railway has eight tunnels, among which Tongguling is the longest at 3,790 meters.
It will end the history of no railway traffic between Fangchenggang and Dongxing after completion.
Travel time between the two cities will be shortened from 90 to 20 minutes, greatly improving transportation in border cities.
