First highway threads through China's fourth largest desert

(ECNS) -- Starting from Wuhai in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and ending in Maqin in Qinghai Province, the first highway going through Tengger Desert is scheduled to open at the end of this year.

In Zhongwei City, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Qingtongxia-Zhongwei section of the highway is 122.9-kilometer-long, with 18 km threading through the desert.

It is expected to ease the traffic burden and offer tourists a new tour route to admire the Tengger Desert, the fourth-largest desert in China.
