(ECNS) -- The inauguration of the China-funded Morodok Techo National Stadium was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Saturday with the presence of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian.
Diplomatic envoys from more than 20 ASEAN countries and nearly 20,000 people, including athletes, students and citizens, attended the event.
The stadium, which began construction in 2017 and was completed in May 2021, is by far the largest and highest grade stadium built with foreign aid by the Chinese government.
The 60,000-seat stadium will serve as the centerpiece venue of the Southeast Asian Games in May 2023.
