(ECNS) -- A Chinese choir of 44 young kids sang the Olympic Anthem in Greek as the Olympic flag was slowly raised at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics on the evening of Feb. 4.
Their teachers and parents cheered and applauded at home in Fuping County, Hebei Province, deep in Taihang Mountains.
Most of the kids were new to numbered musical notation and had no prior exposure to Greek.
According to the choir teacher Su Zhiyan, the group is made up of 44 kids from four different local primary schools. They studied quite hard to master the Greek song even though the youngest is only five years old and not everyone had been well trained in music.
In order to stage a successful performance, their music teacher learned Greek as quickly as possible and collaborated with the language teacher to check pronunciation.
The 44 children practiced hard and made a lot of improvement in their training.
Finally, they presented a great show at the opening ceremony on Feb. 4.
