(ECNS) -- In mid-March, a Chinese merganser was spotted in Huangshui National Wetland Park in Xining City, northwest China's Qinghai Province.
This is the first time that this endangered species has been spotted in Qinghai since it was recorded in the region around 30 years ago.
Listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, the Chinese merganser is under first-class state protection in China. There are less than 5,000 Chinese mergansers left in the wild globally.
