(ECNS) -- A white rhino Wei Wei gave birth to a male calf at the Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province on Tuesday. The newborn is doing well.
White rhinos are listed as a threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, due to years of poaching, a loss of habitat, and a low fertility rate.
There're around 20,000 white rhinos in the world, with two kinds of breeds – the southern and northern ones. Their situations are difficult.
China is making increasing efforts to protect the large mammals. Wei Wei's baby means a lot in terms of the species' reproduction.
