(ECNS) -- Believers at home and abroad gathered at the Meizhou Island in Fujian Province to commemorate the 1,062nd anniversary of Mazu's birth and worshiped the sea goddess on Saturday.
At the ceremony, believers in traditional dresses finished a series of folk customs to pray for the country and people as well as for a peaceful world.
Mazu culture is the common spiritual wealth for worldwide believers, especially for those from the countries along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
There are more than 10,000 Mazu branch temples in more than 40 countries and regions.
The sacrificial ceremony has held an online communication activity, through which worldwide believers can offer incense and pray for the victory over the pandemic and for peace as well.
"I hope this ceremony can strengthen the ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan and end the pandemic. I hope to spread Mazu's fraternity to all over the world," said Wang Shuhua, a believer from Taiwan.
Mazu is deified as the guardian for seafarers with over 300 million admirers across the world.
