(ECNS)-- "A great power in decline gets very restive, gets quite jealous. It gets uncertain about itself," said Professor Paul Kennedy from Yale University at the talk show "Cultural Relativity".
"Some of them are relatively rising because of they're increasing their productivity each year more than others, some of them falling back and declining, not yet catastrophic; we are avoiding great power war, but we are aware that we are now in a multipolar world, and that shifts are still occurring," the professor said.
"This is the great power system of rise and fall, which exists and was existing even before COVID came along. The tensions of a No.1 great power and its culture when it feels that it is starting to decline. A great power in decline gets very restive, gets quite jealous. It gets uncertain about itself. It has significant internal discussions about how to reform itself, how to react to the world of change. Some philosophers, some commentators will say changes are good and we should embrace it," he added.
