(ECNS) -- A giant hybrid rice variety is ready for harvest in Sanzhou Village of Rongjiang County, southwest China's Guizhou Province.
The giant hybrid rice variety can grow 1.9 meters high with a spike of 34 centimeters.
Giant hybrid rice, a fast-growing crop, has large ears and more grains. Its height doubles that of ordinary rice. The first batch of giant rice was sown on four mu (0.27 hectares) of pilot rice paddies, with an estimated yield of 800 kilograms per mu (0.0667 hectares), which is 1.5 times that of ordinary rice.
