(ECNS) -- Sansheng Shuitu Ferry, which opened in 1960 and stopped charging in July, 2011, is the only vehicle ferry currently operating in southwest China's Chongqing City. Its principal route carries passengers across the Jialing River.
In Chongqing, with the rapid development of the public transportation system, this traditional means of carrying vehicles and passengers is still a great convenience and therefore known as the "living bridge over the river".
Recently, the vehicle ferry has gone viral on the Internet and become a new tourist destination in Chongqing. For many Chongqing people, the vehicle ferry is not only a means of transport, but also a form of sentiment and memory.
In the heyday of the boats, there were ten ferry lines carrying thousands of passengers and cargos in the city center every day.
