(ECNS) -- The population of endangered gibbon species grows steadily in southwest China's Yunnan Province due to local residents' increasing awareness of nature conservation.
Currently, there are 90 groups of gibbons in Jingdong County, up from 87 groups that researchers concluded in 2011.
In Jingdong County, in order to protect western black crested gibbons, the management and conservation bureau of the reserve hired local villagers to track and monitor the gibbons.
Surveys of gibbon populations and distributions collected by villagers provide strong support for scientific research.
