On January 4, 2022, Opinions of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council on Comprehensively Promoting the Key Tasks of Rural Revitalization in 2022 proposed to implement the "agricultural development through digital technology and e-commerce" project. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, scientific and technological development has never stopped and e-commerce has constantly creating miracles in rural areas.
In Guangdong Province, Dayuan, the largest village in the city of Guangzhou, has risen to the first "small commodity village valued at billions of dollars"; in Shandong Province, Cao County, which had the largest population of poor people, has morphed into an "internet-famous county" and the largest producer of costumes and Han-style clothing; in Yunnan Province, Yuanyang has combined high-quality grain projects with the protection of Hani terraces and created the marketing model of "grain + culture + e-commerce" to open up "the last mile" to the world.
In the first half of 2022, China's population of rural netizens reached 293 million, and the internet penetration rate was 58.8%; from 2017 to 2021, the income gap between urban and rural residents narrowed from 2.71 to 2.5 times, and China became the world's biggest agricultural e-commerce country. In recent years, the rapid growth of e-commerce has brought radical changes to rural areas. By far, the Ministry of Commerce and other departments have supported 1,489 counties to carry out projects about e-commerce in rural areas. A growing number of poverty-stricken people have found a new way to get out of poverty and become better off.
E-commerce has facilitated consumption upgrades of agricultural products. Farmers have seen an increasing income. Agriculture has been developed, and social stability in rural areas has improved dramatically. In the future, e-commerce will continue to inject new vigor and vitality into rural development.
