In 2022, the Year of the Tiger, Siberian tigers are coming back. Deep in the mountains in Northeast China, tigers have been seen frequently. Now, both tigers and leopards have been spotted very often.
In October 2021, the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park spanning Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces was listed among China's first group of national parks. Since the start of its trial run in 2017, the ratio of Siberian tiger cubs growing into adults has risen to over 50% from 33% before the trial. Wild Siberian tigers and Amur leopards in the park have increased from 27 and 42 in 2015 to the current 50 and over 60 respectively.
Now, more than half of the park witnesses regular activities of tigers and leopards, and in Hunchun area at the core of the park, tigers can be found on almost every hill.
With the help of real time transmission from an integrated monitoring system, in November 2022, the endangered species Siberian musk deer was captured by infrared camera. Roe deer, sika deer, wild boars and other wildlife animals have also been captured multiple times. The picturesque Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park has become a paradise for wildlife to live and prosper.
Besides wildlife protection, in recent years, the park has been working with the region in green industry transformation, bringing changes to locals' livelihood. Great progress has been made in the protection of both people and tigers and in livelihood projects, remaking people's life and production activities.
Human beings and tigers now coexist on the land of forests. The Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park follows the Convention on Biological Diversity, and keeps scoring new achievements under the concept of "building a shared future for all life on Earth", signifying the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
