(100 great changes) Technology helps Chinese farmers realize bumper harvest

Shouguang in Shandong Province, known as the "Hometown of Vegetables" in China. More than 50,000 smart greenhouses are equipped with intelligent equipment, such as temperature control, ventilation blowers and plant protection equipment. The greenhouses can produce more than 10,000 metric tons of vegetables a day, which ensures the supply of vegetables for the country.

Featured with a subtropical plateau monsoon climate, Yunnan's Fumin County is known for an old saying "four seasons in one mountain, and different days in ten miles." The "edge computing in 5G + cloud architecture" smart agriculture park is planted with various types of strawberry seedlings. In a paddy rice technology demonstration park in Heilongjiang, technologies such as the Internet of Things and cloud computing are applied in intelligent analysis and guidance for rice seed germination, water-saving irrigation, pest and weed monitoring, etc. In Shaya County on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert, new farming tools like agricultural drones and intelligent water and fertilizer machines are frequently utilized across the 1.9 million mu (about 0.13 million hectares) of cotton fields.

From Shandong to Yunnan, from the hinterland of Sanjiang Plain to the ancient Silk Road, China is steadily shifting from traditional weather-dependent agriculture to smart agriculture relying on technology. Data show that at present the contribution rate of science and technology progress to agriculture in China reaches 61.5% and the overall mechanization rate of crop cultivation and harvest exceeds 72%. China's grain output hits new heights thanks to digitalization, intelligence and mechanization.
