Ling Jihe, a renowned rice grower in Nanchang, east China's Jiangxi province, offered 7.2 million yuan ($1.06 million) annual bonuses to his contract farmers.
This is the twelfth year that he offered annual bonuses in cash to farmers. In the past 12 years, he has paid more than 40 million yuan in total. Farmers were rewarded with up to 0.7 million yuan.
"To make annual bonuses pay more impressive, we prepared a large amount of cash every year. We have prepared more than 7 million yuan ($1 million) this year," said Tao Chun, an account Manager of Jiangxi Anyi County Rural Commercial Bank, "Yesterday evening, we arranged 4 employees to count the cash, which took 4 hours. This morning, we specially arranged a cash truck to give bonuses to farmers."
Ling Jihe said this year they improved the soil, and bought over 2 million yuan of organic fertilizer. "For more than twenty years, the soil has not been changed. This year, we specially purchased more than two million organic fertilizers," said Ling, "Thus, the output increased sharply, and we also overcame the drought. We should believe in the power of science and technology to develop agriculture."
