Fujian locals dance barefoot over burning coal

Villagers have stepped over burning coal in bare feet at a ritual ceremony in Putian, east China's Fujian Province.

The ritual, involving walking barefoot over burning charcoal and fanning the flames with shovels, enjoys a long tradition. People believe the ceremony will help them ward off evil spirits and bring in a bumper harvest.
