The newborn African elephant Xiao Liu in Qingyuan Chimelong National Ex-situ Conservation Base of World Endangered Wild Plants and Animals, south China's Guangdong Province, ushered one month birthday on Saturday.
The baby elephant was born on January 25, 2023. Under the careful care of the staff for one month, the weight of Xiao Liu has increased from 118 kilograms at birth to 132 kilograms.
The six baby African elephants born in China are in good health now and are the only African elephants born in China.
Zimbabwe is one of the countries with the densest distribution of African elephants. In order to protect African elephants better, the Zimbabwean government has been seeking more help and practical support for African elephant protection through international cooperation. With the help of relevant institutions in China and Zimbabwe, a group of African elephants settled down in Qingyuan and started a journey of ex-situ conservation in July 2015.
