The 40th Weifang International Kite Festival kicked off on Saturday at the Binhai International Kite Flying Field in Shandong Province'sWeifang City, which is also known as "the World Kite Capital."
A total of 622 kite enthusiasts from 59 countries and regions took part in the competition and cultural performance. Thousands of kites of various shapes and sizes colored the sky. This year's festival will last until May 21.
Known as China's "kite capital," Weifang boasts a long history of manufacturing and flying kites and is endowed with a rich historical and cultural heritage.
