Immigration authorities across China conducted about 6.27 million inspections of people entering or leaving the mainland during the five-day May Day holiday this year, with an average daily number of 1.25 million, an increase of about 2.2 times compared with the same period last year, the National Immigration Administration released on Thursday.
Inbound trips reached 3.12 million, while about 3.15 million outbound trips were made, said the NIA.
A total of 260,000 inbound and outbound flights, ships, trains and vehicles were inspected at the border checkpoints across the country, a 1.4 times increase compared with last year.
On April 30, the authorities did 1.38 million inspections of travelers entering and exiting, hitting a record high for a single day since the implementation of optimized COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control measures on Jan. 8 this year.
