The number of rail passenger trips handled by China's railways during the just-concluded May Day holiday had hit 133 million as of Thursday, data from the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. showed.
The transport sector experienced a travel boom during the holiday, and on April 29, a single day record of 19.6 million rail passenger trips were made.
During the May Day holiday, the average daily number of passenger trains operated by the railway reached 11,347, an increase of over 2,300 compared to daily operations. The highest number of passenger trains operated on a single day reached 12,143, an increase of over 3,100 compared to daily operations. The daily average number of passengers sent reached 16.59 million, an increase of 26.7% compared to the same period in 2019.
