China mourns 'father of hybrid rice' at second anniversary of his death

Students and teachers visited a memorial site set up at Southwest University in China's Chongqing on Monday to pay their respects to Chinese agronomist Yuan Longping, "father of hybrid rice," who passed away on May 22, 2021. 　

Yuan, who died at the age of 91,　developed strains of hybrid high-yield rice that helped alleviate famine and poverty around the world.
