On Friday morning, the Chinese capital of Beijing renewed an orange alert for high temperatures, with the day's maximum temperature expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius, said local weather authorities.
As heatwaves continue to scorch the city, temperatures in most parts of Beijing will reach 37 to 39 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday.
The reporter from China News Service used an infrared thermometer to measure the surface temperature in Beijing's Chaoyang District on Friday noon. He found that the surface temperature reached about 60 degrees Celsius.
China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
