From May to July this year, twenty teams from Rongjiang County participate in a village super league in southwest China's Guizhou Province. On Sunday morning, the cheerleaders from each team got up early and prepared local specialties for players and spectators.
Before matches, representatives from each team's cheerleading carried local specialties on their shoulders, played the reed pipe, and danced as they entered the field together with the local football players. Spectators could also enjoy folk song and dance performances during halftime breaks.
As an integral part of the locals' lives, football has a long history in Rongjiang County. In the past, the harsh conditions didn't deter local people from pursuing their football dreams. Whether on paddy fields, river banks, or rugged terrain, residents were often seen playing football. Local villagers used to help clean the sandy field and prepare refreshments for players.
During the football game, there are not just the athletes competing on the field but a large number of rural spectators and cheerleaders enjoying the match. They ignite a carnival-like atmosphere throughout the entire venue.
