A high-speed train G674 departed from Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, heading for Beijing on Sunday.
It marked the opening of a direct high-speed train service between Xining and Beijing across the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau.
The train left Xining at 12:20 p.m. and will arrive in Beijing after about 10.5 hours, passing 19 other stops, including the historical cities of Xi'an and Luoyang.
Compared to more than 24 hours of travel in the past, the new high-speed train has cut time in half.
