The world's first captive-bred Yangtze finless porpoise Tao Tao celebrated its 18th birthday on Wednesday in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province. Tao Tao is in good health based on various indicators.
The three-year-old Han Bao, China's second generation of artificially-bred Yangtze finless porpoise, is the son of Tao Tao.
Tao Tao's daughter, nicknamed Little Jiujiu, is China's first second-generation artificially-bred female Yangtze finless porpoise, and just turned one year old.
The Yangtze finless porpoise is the only freshwater subspecies in the finless porpoise family. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists the species as critically endangered.
