A popular rural amateur basketball competition was held in Taipan Village, Taijiang County, southwest China's Guizhou Province. The annual event went viral online last summer, acquiring a catchy name: VBA, or Village Basketball Association.
The Miao ethnic group usually starts the event on the sixth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, celebrating the traditional Chixin Festival through various activities, the liveliest of which is the basketball competition. The spectators are passionate and the whole event is also full of agricultural interest and taste.
Distinctive Miao cultural performances were staged during the intermissions, and local agricultural products were displayed in a small market beside the basketball court.
