China marked a new milestone in the history of summer box office on Thursday night.
As of 7:21 p.m. on Thursday, the staggering earnings in the 2023 summer movie season had reached 17.78 billion yuan (about 2.4 billion U.S. dollars), beating the previous record of 17.78 billion yuan set in 2019's whole summer moviegoing period.
The summer moviegoing period, which runs from the beginning of June to the end of August, had 13 days left as of Friday this year.
The top three positions on China's 2023 summer box office chart are suspense thriller "Lost in the Stars," crime drama "No More Bets," and sports movie "Never Say Never."
