Troupers were spotted performing Tibetan Opera at Dzongyab Lukhang Park in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, on Sunday to celebrate the Shoton Festival, as thousands of Tibetan residents gathered together.
Shoton Festival, which literally means "yogurt banquet festival," is one of the most important festivals for Tibetans. Tibetan Opera remains an important part of the festival today, attracting an increasing number of tourists every year to witness its unique charm.
The Tibetan Opera and Shoton Festival were both included in the first batch of The National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China, released by the Ministry of Culture in 2006.
