A wild Asian elephant discovered 2.8 kilograms of opium hidden in a backpack in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The border police in Mengman Township, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, recently received a report from the villagers that four wild elephants were strolling in the village.
The officers then arrived at the scene and tracked down the elephants that were on the move in the forest.
Four Asian elephants were crossing a road when one suddenly stopped and started sniffing the grass. Then it used its trunk to toss a back bag into the air and left. It also shouted twice in excitement.
Officers then opened the bag and found 2.8 kg of opium. An investigation is underway, police said.
