The 8th Belt and Road Summit kicked off in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered opening remarks to inaugurate the Belt and Road Summit 2023. John Lee said that Hong Kong plays the role of participant, contributor and beneficiary in the Belt and Road Initiative. Hong Kong is determined to embrace the vast promise of the Belt and Road. Under the "one country, two systems" principle, Hong Kong is expanding co-operation with Belt and Road partners in many areas, such as trade and investment, innovation and technology, and infrastructure development, said Lee.
Kuwaiti Deputy Consul General in Hong Kong said in an interview that Kuwait is one of the first Arab countries to sign an agreement with China to build the Belt and Road Initiative jointly, and this summit forum has brought many investment opportunities for Kuwait. He believed that Hong Kong played an important role in constructing the Belt and Road Initiative.
The forum, co-organized by the HKSAR government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, attracted nearly 6,000 government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs and start-ups from almost 70 countries and regions. More than 100 overseas and mainland delegations participated in the summit's activities.
