A vast expanse of red grasslands has formed picturesque scenery in the scenic area of Guju Yanze in Ejin Banner of Alxa League, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, making the area look like a giant carpet in the desert.
The color of the grass, known as suaeda glauca, becomes red as the weather turns cold in early autumn, resembling an unfolding landscape painting combining shades of vivid red and orange.
The scenic area of Guju Yanze covers an area of 500 square kilometers and is the birthplace of the Juyan culture. The toponym of Juyan comes from the ancient Xiongnu language and refers to the downstream region of the Heihe River in Ejine Banner.
