The world's first 20-story unmanned vertical veggie farm has entered operation in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province. The world's tallest unmanned plants factory was developed by the Institute of Urban Agriculture (IUA) under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Covering an area of 200 square meters, the three-dimensional cultivation system transports lettuce seedlings to different cultivation racks, where vegetables can achieve a harvest after about 20 days.
Vertical farming technology represents the advanced stage of facility agriculture and is a crucial frontier in exploring global agricultural science and technology. It is an efficient agricultural system that enables year-round continuous green food production within multi-story structures.
